Midleton Flood Relief Scheme - Arboriculture & Woodland Inventory
Midleton Flood Relief Scheme is a vital infrastructure project to address flood risks in the Midleton area. The proposed infrastructure project follows on from the Lee Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management Study and the major flood event of 2015. The more recent extreme flood event in October 2023 caused by Storm Babet has highlighted the importance of the project. The proposed new infrastructure includes new flood defense embankments, upgrading and maintaining existing embankments, flood defense walls, and surface water pumping stations.
Tree-space undertook a scheme wide inventory of the arboricultural features in the study area. The survey required two levels of detail and mainly focused on the features established in the riparian zones along the various watercourses. The fieldwork required access to both private and public lands and areas along the river systems with very challenging access. Tree-space provided a detailed report on the surveyed tree population including their locations and quality assessment.
